As Ryuichi Sakamoto continues to undergo treatment for throat cancer, his latest Taylor Deupree collaboration is set for a January 27th release through Deupree’s 12k imprint. Dubbed Perpetual, it’s actually a live recording captured at the 10th anniversary of the Yamaguchi Center for Arts and Media. Joined onstage by the Tokyo-based Illuha, the quartet presents “three movements that traverse from soft layers of synthesizer and processed guitar, to open, airy sections of prepared piano and silence, to finally coming to rest in a most hauntingly delicate lullaby of lonely piano, crackling found objects and field recordings and tones suspended like mists.”
