No offense against the Black Lips–they are our current cover story, after all–but Jay Reatard just stole self-titled‘s blackened heart and became our favorite gutter rock artist since, well, the Black Lips. Not because the bassist in the photo above looks like a younger King Buzzo, either. To be honest, we were already halfway there after hearing his recent singles comp; Tuesday’s opening slot for Spoon simply sealed the deal. In fact, we were so into Jay-tard’s set that self-titled left early, satisfied and ready to soak up Dungen’s special acoustic performance at (Le) Poisson Rouge. More on that later.
