A Short Review: Fluid flutes and back-spun Beastie Boys samples on a Cat Power album? Yep. All subtle touches on what’s otherwise a spare and spellbinding descent into Chan Marshall’s genuinely tortured soul. (Seriously–this was back when she’d hide under her bedsheets during interviews, or stop playing in the middle of a show for no apparent reason.)
