FROM THE STACKS: 6th Borough Project

We get a lot of crap CDs at the self-titled offices. But once in a while, a pleasant surprise slips into our promo stack. Here’s a recent delivery that knocked the s/t staff on its collective ass…

The Artist/Album: 6th Borough Project, One Night In the Borough (Delusions of Grandeur, 2011)

The Vibe: While their name’s got nothing to do with New York–the 6th Borough Project is actually based in Scotland–Graeme Clark and Craig Smith sound like they set out to create the ultimate loft party soundtrack for SoHo in the ’70s. Or at the very least, a proper score for flipping through the pages of Love Saves the Day and wishing Manhattan wasn’t overrun with Situations and Snookis every weekend.

RIYL: Classy artwork chased with a sampledelic sense of what actually works on a discriminating dancefloor; triple pack LPs that actually feel like a proper album; trance as a state of mind, rather than trance as a state of Tiësto
