Stephen Malkmus Releasing Vinyl Version of Can’s ‘Ege Bamyasi’ For Record Store Day

Stephen Malkmus Not that excited about Record Store Day yet? Here’s one release that smacks of a little more effort than things like this (we love Bowie, but come on): On April 20th, Matador will let 3,500 green vinyl copies of  Ege Bamyasi (the Stephen Malkmus version, not the Can one) loose in the wild, featuring a hand-printed, silkscreened sleeve that was designed by David Shrigley.

The former Pavement frontman performed the Kraut-rock classic on the 40th anniversary of its release at Cologne’s WEEK-END Fest, as rounded out by a one-night-only collective of German musicians who were handpicked by Jan Lankisch of Tomlab Records. According to Matador, it was “a truly magical & wondrous performance of one of the greatest albums of all time…The sound quality is fantastic; the performance jumps out of the grooves and bubbles its way through your stereo.”

Consider us sold. And if you’re not, check out clips from the performance below, along with album art and killer footage of Can performing “Vitamin C”…
