Neneh Cherry has announced her first proper solo LP since the 1996 album Man. Due out early next year through Smalltown Supersound, the as-yet-untitled effort features Four Tet behind the boards, a special appearance by Robyn, and RocketNumberNine as her backing band. Which sounds like a lot of moving parts, but the record was apparently cut in less than a week.
“It was a liberating experience,” the singer explained in a press release, “Not endlessly trying to fiddle with the music, re-recording hundreds of times. These days it’s easy to create any effect or sound on a computer, it is much harder to get the rawness I think we’ve achieved.”
Cherry released a cover-driven collaboration with the avant-jazz band The Thing through Smalltown Supersound last year. Check out a video from that effort below, as well as Four Tet’s remix of “Dream Baby Dream”…
