After reissuing three of his key Caretaker records on vinyl earlier this year, Leyland Kirby reverts back to his dark-ambient ways on Watching Dead Empires in Decay. Due out October 29th through Modern Love—and streaming in full below, just in time for its early UK pressing—it’s Kirby’s first album as The Stranger since 2008’s Bleaklow LP. Some of it recalls his other recent solo work in the minor-keyed melancholia department, but the overall vibe is much more ominous, as if Aphex Twin’s Selected Ambient Works sessions were hijacked by Wolf Eyes.
