The bass, well, it was undeniable, bashing the door of Boys Noize‘s trailer as the Berlin-based producer/DJ got ready to headline his biggest New York City gig yet: a free Saturday matinee party in Central Park. Paired up perfectly with recent Modular signing Canyons (described by owner Steve Pavlovic as “swampy…and trippy as hell”) and Brooklyn’s bass don Drop the Lime (performing with multi-instrumentalist Nick Hook of Cubic Zirconia and drummer Guy Licata of Tippy Toes/Method of Defiance), Alexander Ridha followed DTL’s live slabs of deviant dubstep, banging B-more and all things electro with his own trademark Boys Noize blend of serrated synths and heavyweight breaks. A familiar sound, sure, but with the added bonus of Ridha decade-plus experience as a DJ–first of house, then of the same “I wanna rock!” school as Justice, Digitalism and half of Kitsuné’s roster.

We’ll get more into that later this week, as we present an extensive–and exclusive–interview with Ridha about his new record Power, which is due out this October through Boys Noize Records. Canyons are also typing up their current crate mainstays in preparation for People Don’t Dance No More’s boat party with DFA this Thursday.

For now, we’ve got Turkishhomework’s weekly column to share, a series of backstage/onstage shots from Saturday’s show…
