Karen O has finally confirmed the details of her long delayed solo debut. Due out September 9th through Julian Casablancas’ Cult Records imprint, Crush Songs was recorded way back in 2006 and 2007 and is described as “an intimate collection of lo-fi, bedroom recordings in the vein of Karen’s Oscar-nominated ‘The Moon Song’.” Having seen one of the seemingly random solo shows (dubbed “Native Korean Rock”) Karen performed around this time, we can safely say they are exactly that: subtle and bittersweet.
“When I was 27, I crushed a lot,” the singer explains in a press release. “I wasn’t sure I’d ever fall in love again. These songs were written and recorded in private around this time. They are the soundtrack to what was an ever continuing love crusade. I hope they keep you company on yours.”
“[I’m] so excited, lucky and proud to be involved with such a classic album,” Casablancas added. “I just wanna listen to it all day. Karen is an all-time great.”
