RELAXIN’ With Lolina
(self-released, 2015)

First Alina Astrova shortened her pen name (Inga Copeland) and made the last part lower case, cementing a symbolic break from her old Hype Williams bandmate Dean Blunt with last year’s Because I’m Worth It LP. Now the cagey singer/producer appears to have taken on a new role as Lolina, a project she first teased at a London date last January. While it’s not quite the full-length record some were expecting, RELAXIN’ With Lolina is a solid EP featuring three avant-pop songs that pair Astrova’s spacious melodies with sluggish beats (“Lolina”), polychromatic keys (“Miss Understood”), and poison-tipped pianos (“Relaxx”). The more we hear, the less we know.
