Seeing as how Jaakko Eino Kalevi named his Weird World debut after a Finnish dream forum, we thought we’d bring things full circle by asking Kalevi to interpret the deepest, darkest storylines that have sprung from your subconscious.
“They are so imaginative,” the synth-glazed singer told Clash recently, after being asked why he’s so interested in other people’s sleep patterns. “It’s not anyone’s intention to dream those dreams, so how can their minds create such crazy things? I have this old song called ‘Poison’ and the lyrics for that are almost directly translated from the Finnish dream forum. Somebody had a dream where poison was flowing from the flower beds. In the same dream she saw snakes made out of colors. I don’t know what it means, but it’s a nice image.”
We’d like you to top that poison-tipped tale just in time for Kalevi’s upcoming U.S. tour, so here’s what you need to do: send your strangest dream/nightmare to aparks@self-titledmag.com between now and the end of the week. Kalevi will pick the very best and try to explain what it all means better than any shrink could do. Until then, sleep well and check out some of Kalevi’s equally immersive (and downright strange) music videos below…
