The Song In A Couple Sentences: The UK’s gloomy weather has inspired some truly melancholic rock in the past few years; Frightened Rabbit, the Twilight Sad and We Were Promised Jetpacks, just to name a few. Add Neil Pennycook’s Meursault to the list of power balladeers. “Crank Resolutions” is a stand-out track from his forthcoming sophomore album All Creatures Will Make Merry (due out May 24th from Song, By Toad Records), a glitchy folk anthem that sounds both ghostly and pained, right down to lonesome lyrics like “I broke down on New Year’s Day.”
