Avey Tare’s Slasher Flicks—the Animal Collective side project featuring its de facto frontman and former members of Dirty Projectors (keyboardist/singer Angel Deradoorian) and Ponytail (drummer Jeremy Hyman)—revealed their debut album today. Due out April 8th through Domino, Enter the Slasher House is a self-proclaimed “escape from LA” album that started with Tare’s acoustic guitar lines and was fleshed out in a live “jazz power trio” format with very little overdubbing at The Lair.
While Tare says their songs “come from a place that’s not human,” the record is not rooted in horror soundtracks or badly dubbed VHS videos. As heard on the lead single “Little Fang,” it’s more of a lighthearted listen, sending Tare’s warbled melodies spiraling through the trio’s very own twilight zone.
