“I have probably made material for about seven albums in the last 12 months,” Ben Frost told us in 2011, “but none of it is the album. The album as a concept is a sacred entity to me–I need a reason, and because I ‘haven’t made one for a while’ is not a reason.”
Which leads us to A U R O R A, the long-awaited follow-up to Frost’s 2009 LP, By the Throat. Due out May 26th through Bedroom Community/Mute, the effort features longtime collaborator Shahzad Ismaily and members of Swans (percussionist Thor Harris) and Guardian Alien (drummer Greg Fox), with co-production credits from Daniel Rejmer and Frost’s Bedroom Community labelmates Valgeir Sigurosson and Paul Corley. It was “largely written in Eastern DR Congo,” which can only mean we’re in for yet another serious heart of darkness listen.
