The L.A. music scene was dealt a major loss this week–22-year-old pianist Austin Peralta, a member of Flying Lotus’ Brainfeeder family and a sideman for such artists as Erykah Badu, Thundercat, the Cinematic Orchestra and Teebs.
“It kills me to type that we lost a member of our family, Austin Peralta,” Flying Lotus wrote on Twitter Thursday morning. “I don’t really have the right words right now.”
Many other musicians, both mainstream and underground, have also chimed in with their thoughts, from Red Hot Chili Peppers bassist Flea (“Austin Peralta was a transcendent musician, the kind of kid that made the future of music look bright”) to jazz pianist/producer Robert Glasper (“Gone too soon…glad I got to meet him last month…great dude…praying for his family”).
