Clare Maguire is the latest “raw and real” singer to lose her edge somewhere between money-hungry meetings with Rick Rubin and Jay-Z and a major label debut (Light After Dark, in this case) that drowns whatever promise she once had in the high gloss production values of a “hitmaker” who’s worked with Britney, Kylie, and, um, Keane. Or as the Guardian put it in a recent review, “Maguire is another startling talent whose every point of interest has been sandblasted off between being signed and getting her album out.”
