As steady as Justin Broadrick’s output has been since Godflesh’s breakup in 2002, the experimental metal icon promised he’d take his time with new tracks when the band got back together four years ago. Word of a proper LP first surfaced in 2012, when Broadrick told Rock-a-Rolla that bassist/programmer G.C. Green and him were aiming for a 2013 release but “not taking it ‘lightly’.”
A World Lit Only By Fire is now set for this fall, as preceded by an EP called Decline & Fall on June 26th. As for how the duo’s entire new effort is sounding, Broadrick has said “It will be [musically] similar to the first two or three [Godflesh albums]. I just think, like we’re playing these shows, we feel very pure about we’re doing and honoring the initial intentions with what we originally set out to do. It will definitely sound aggressive and it probably won’t sound like any of the other records we’ve made, but it will have the minimalism of the first few records”…
