Just when we thought James Murphy had nothing left to say about LCD Soundsystem‘s latest album and the laid-back road ahead, he had to go and tell BBC News that he almost worked with Arcade Fire…twice.
“I missed the opportunity to work with Arcade Fire in the studio on two albums in a row just because they were recording at the same time I did,” explained Murphy, “and that broke my heart ’cause we toured together. I consider them to be very good friends and I admire what they do and it would have been really fun to work with them.”
Murphy added that there “are a couple of projects that have been on the back burner for 10 years,” including in-house production gigs for his DFA imprint, a potential collaboration with Soulwax, and a return to remixes, one-off singles and weekly dance parties.
“I haven’t had the chance to just not have a plan,” Murphy said. “If I have an idea, and I write it down, and it goes in this pile of things I want to do. So this is just an opportunity to sit still for a minute, listen to my records at home again and get excited in a different way. I am still excited about what we do, but I want to find a new way of dealing with my time.” [BBC News]
