Red Bull Music Academy has announced its third annual New York lineup. Set to happen this May, the month-long festival includes the following exclusives:
- A rare Q&A with drone demigod La Monte Young
- The Rihanna-defying return of GHE20G0TH1K
- A “television network” take on the highly stylized pop hooks of PC Music
- Local noise/whatever-wave party Nothing Changes gets an upgrade at Output, headlined by Merzbow and supported by such welcome distractions as a live Pharmakon set, Prurient performing his proto-Vatican Shadow LP Pleasure Ground, and Genesis P-Orridge presenting Psychic TV’s open-sourced “Electric Newspapers” series alongside Wolf Eyes co-founder Aaron Dilloway.
- Two nights of FKA twigs, rounded out by 10 dancers, the costuming of Alexander McQueen, and an original production dubbed “Congregata”
- Frankie Bones resuscitating his seminal Storm Rave party 22 years after its last bill
- A long overdue survey of underground African music, starring Nozinja, Islam Chipsy’s EEK band, Titica and more
- Tri Angle celebrating its fifth anniversary on Wall Street—the basement of a former J.P. Morgan building, to be exact—with The Haxan Cloak, Forest Swords, Vessel and a former self-titled cover star
