Before their well-documented feud with Anton Newcombe, ill-conceived Warhol nods, and a string of wildly divisive albums, The Dandy Warhols wrote their best record, Thirteen Tales From Urban Bohemia. Opening with the breathy psych balladry of “Godless,” it was yet another example of the Portland group openly pulling cues from Courtney Taylor-Taylor’s record collection. Only this time the songs were stronger, including a blatant reboot of the band’s own “Not If You Were the Last Junkie on Earth,” the equally ironic–and Buffy-endorsed–”Bohemiam Like You.”
