“Hopefully before the end of the world,” Madlib said on Benji B’s Radio 1 show this week, referring to Madvillain’s long-delayed second LP. “Right now, it’s up to Doom. He’s not obligated to do it. He just does it when he feels it… We recorded about 10, 12 songs. But usually we do about 20 and pick the best ones, so we have to get to that mark.”
In the meantime, Stones Throw’s most prolific producer has a growing stack of other releases on tap, including some material with Mos Def, an album with Freddie Gibbs called Piñata and yet another Beat Conducta series, featuring “five or six CDs of different genres,” including soul, rock and industrial. That’s right—Madlib is on a serious Throbbing Gristle/Cabaret Voltaire tip right now.
