“I felt like I was growing up as I was making this record with him,” Freddie Gibbs said in a recent self-titled feature, referring to the rapper’s Piñata LP with Madlib. “I just felt like, ‘Damn.’ I was learning so many new things. Not just about music, but about life.”
Gibbs then went on to say how the producer helped him push his sound, much like how Miles Davis evolved alongside jazz icons like Thelonious Monk and Dizzy Gillespie.
