New Order have revealed their first batch of new material since 2015’s Music Complete LP. Originally intended as a teaser for their fall tour, “Be a Rebel” builds upon the synth-laced strengths of the band’s last record and makes quite a case for their next move.
“In tough times we wanted to reach out with a new song,” singer/guitarist Bernard Sumner said in a press release. “We can’t play live for a while, but music is still something we can all share together. We hope you enjoy it… until we meet again.”
And by a “while,” he means an entire year; New Order’s co-headlining run with the Pet Shop Boys has been rescheduled for next fall, and capped with a special London show on November 6th. In the meantime, Warner Music has an expanded box set edition — one LP, two CDs, two DVDs, and a 48-page hardback book — of the group’s best album (1983’s Power, Corruption & Lies) on deck for October 2nd. That, and four newly remastered 12” singles, including the absolutely iconic anthem “Blue Monday.”
