The Artist/Album: Ben Frost, Steel Wound (Room40, 2003)
Our Review: Lawrence English’s Room40 imprint recently gave Ben Frost’s mist-shrouded debut a proper vinyl pressing nearly a decade later. What took so long? With English’s own field recordings and Sarah Jane-Wentzki’s vaporized vocals weaving in and out of Frost’s deeply disturbed guitar drones–recorded in strict isolation along the coast of Southern Australia–this record’s much more subtle than the composer’s last two LPs, and ultimately, more haunting.
