The tricky thing about starting a band is finding a sound you think people would actually be interested in. For Brian Kerr, frontman of the Brooklyn-based Eastern Midwestern, that was actually the easy part; he learned by running his own label (twosyllable records) and working with artists like Inlets, Candy Claws and NewVillager. Now—along with guitarist Zach Pollakoff, bassist Tom Wironen and drummer Sam Broe—the foursome hopes to soon release Zenith, an album that hearkens back to the wounded soul of the Walkmen and the rustic sensibility of Wilco.
