“I know The Rapture is a special band for some people out there,” Mattie Safer explained in an exclusive interview earlier this year. “It’s special to me, too; I gave 10 years to it and put everything I had into it when I was with them. But people change and grow. And as much as I’ve grown and changed, I’m sure [fans have] done the same. Some of ‘em will be with it, some of them won’t, but there will be new fans who don’t have any idea about what I did before and don’t even care.”
Well put, although the following exclusive—a club-ready remix by John Hamilton and BL’EVE Brown—strikes a nice balance between Safer’s dance roots and the soul-inflected R&B sound he’s gravitated towards over the past couple years. It’s presented right alongside shots from a recent #selftitledtakeover that took us behind the scenes of the singer’s “Whenever You’re Ready” video. The HXLT clip is set to drop sometime next month.
