It's hard to think of a more appropriate music video for this week's Mueller hearings than the caustic Prettiest Eyes clip below. Taken from the LA band's raucous Vol. 3 record on Castle Face, "Mr. President" is a rallying call rounded by razor-sharp riffs, steam-pressed synths, and twitchy rhythms. Meanwhile, director Andrew Frescas hammers its message home on several levels. Or as he puts it, "Regardless of what you may know about the world around you — your 9-5 job, your wife and kids, your parents, your schools, your government, your MEDIA! — always remember.... THEY STILL LIVE. WE STILL SLEEP.
WAKE UP! That's what this music video is yelling at you, all while paying homage to John Carpenter's film They Live, a satire about an alien race living covertly among us, deliberately exploiting and dictating our very existence.
He continues, "It's crazy to me that things haven't changed at all. They just got much worse. The United States has become an industry of suppression. They want us to be poor. They train us to be employees but not to be leaders. Freedom has become a social construct, aberrated from its original meaning. We are given this sense of 'freedom' that we all accept and believe must be true but are we really free?"
