Sometimes it’s hard to see past Richie Hawtin‘s elegantly sculpted hair and remember what an innovator he’s always been, how he’s always turned his obsessive technology rants into masterful bouts of beat-heavy minimalism. That is until you listen to an old Plastikman LP or a classic mix like Decks, EFX & 909, records that are paralleled in surprising ways–either production wise, or through their carefully constructed, fog-strangled atmospherics–by such new-school producers as Vatican Shadow, Demdike Stare and Andy Stott.
So we probably shouldn’t be surprised that Hawtin is bringing all three of those guys to Ibiza this summer as part of his second annual ENTER. residency, along with such welcome guests as Maya Jane Coles, Lee Gamble, Benoit & Sergio, Mark Ernestus, Audion, Vessel and many, many more.
