Savages Sign to Matador For Debut Album, Share New Single

Savages @ SXSW

So the rumors heard throughout South by Southwest are true: Savages have indeed signed to Matador Records for what may very well be our most anticipated debut album of the year. Due out May 7th in a partnership between the label and the band’s own Pop Noire imprint, Silence Yourself includes new versions of three previously released singles (“I Am Here,” “City’s Full,” “Husbands”) and eight other tracks, including the newly leaked “She Will.” As twitchy and tight as the two SXSW sets the band floored us with last week, it doesn’t just live up to the promise of the group’s past work; it elevates it.

Or as the quartet puts it in a press release/mission statement, “SAVAGES is not trying to give you something you didn’t have already, it is calling within yourself something you buried ages ago, it is an attempt to reveal and reconnect your PHYSICAL and EMOTIONAL self and give you the urge to experience your life differently, your girlfriends, your husbands, your jobs, your erotic life and the place music occupies in your life. Because we must teach ourselves new ways of POSITIVE MANIPULATIONS, music and words are aiming to strike like lightning, like a punch in the face, a determination to understand the WILL and DESIRES of the self.”

Amen. Check out more of our thoughts on the band here, and a streaming version of “She Will” below alongside cover art, tour dates and a complete tracklisting…
