Southern Shores couldn’t have come up with a more surreal opening sample for its Siena (Part I) EP than this soliloquy: “I really, really feel free for the first time. I’m starting to live for the here and now. I’m not scared anymore.”
Kinda weird considering fear is our de facto state of being, right? But that’s okay; Jamie Townsend and Ben Dalton have come up with a temporary cure for #quarantinelife, pure escapism padded with muggy dance melodies, laid-back loops, and bleary-eyed beats.
“The mood of the record is more of a sunset than midday bliss,” explains Townsend. “It’s that subtle melancholy that lies beneath the bright textural exterior.”
Hammering that point home is the hazy lead single “Estrisa,” which the Toronto-based duo unveils below along with a little more commentary about how it was made….
“Estrisa” has come to represent the core of this release’s ethos to us. A sound we strive to create as intuitively as possible — one that’s evocative and dynamic. It’s one of those rare songs that comes together in such an intuitive and natural flow, you almost forget how you made it.
