Smokey Emery Shares the Latest Installment of His Lynch-ian ‘Soundtracks For Invisibility’ Series

Smokey Emery

All those alien noises and Dean Hurley x David Lynch duets in last year’s Twin Peaks reboot? They’re the first thing that comes to our mind while wading through the wild, psychedelic sound paintings Smokey Emery splatters across his new Holodeck tape Photo of a Painting, which hits shops today. In the following exclusive, the LA producer dissects the fourth installment in his Soundtracks For Invisibility series alongside a complete stream of every last contorted field recording.

Or as Emery puts it, “These are meant to be like recurring dreams—slightly different, but still the same each time. A vague suggestion of narrative providing reflections”….

“TREATMENT \ ITCH OF THE CUT”
A narrative of isolation. The footsteps echoing an empty aluminum hall. A box in the desert.

“UNTITLED”
The next moment—regarding it, sitting with it.

“WHERE THERE’S NO OCEAN”
Waking up in a vehicle at a highway rest area, a blanket of stars above a dark plain, the long grass edged with silver and undulating.

“SHE IS OUTSIDE”
Something about fear.

“DEAR BIRDS”
Movement through the city. A night ride on an empty monorail.

“BRIGHT KEYS”
You open your left hand. Look down. There sit three keys—gold, brass, and copper—that shine and seem lit from within.
