Well this is kinda awesome–a free-jazz version of Madvillain’s “Accordion” single featuring Neneh Cherry on vocals and the Thing on everything else. Which may seem random if you only know Cherry from “Buffalo Stance” and the Thing from their collaborations with Thurston Moore and Jim O’Rourke, but the truth is Cherry’s been involved with indie-esque music for decades, including work with Tricky, Michael Stipe, Massive Attack, Pulp and many, many more. And regardless, “Buffalo Stance” is a killer pop song.
“Accordion” is taken from The Cherry Thing, a collaborative LP that also includes covers of the Stooges, Martina Topley-Bird, Ornette Coleman, and Neneh’s father, jazz icon Don Cherry. Oh, and there’s also this amazing, horn-stabbed rendition of Suicide’s “Dream Baby Dream”…
