It may be hard to believe given that the label’s been around since the late ’90s, but Dominick Fernow’s Hospital Productions imprint is launching its first official tour later this month. And to emphasize the palette-expanding moves its roster has made in recent months, Fernow is sitting this one out and focusing on the next Prurient album instead.
Headlining in his place is one of the most promising expat projects from the Wolf Eyes camp in years. Centered around Hair Police co-founder Mike Connelly and his wife Tara, Clay Rendering is really its own beast, a mood manipulator that borrows, then buries, its musical cues from black-metal, dark-ambient and poison-tipped pop records.
The video premiere above is taken from the duo’s recent Waters Above the Firmament EP. As Mike explains, it stands in stark contrast to the “Nature’s Confusion” clip they released a year ago. “This video is night and fire, while our first video was daylight and earth,” he says. “Tara was especially into making fires at this time, so it fit naturally. She was making fires everyday. Fire fit the vibe of the song. Burning, cleansing. The lamppost is our lamppost.”
Here’s that last video, and a complete rundown of the Hospital tour…
