If you have fond memories of Michael J. Fox frying an amp at the beginning of Back to the Future, the Dan Friel video below will feel like its distant cousin. Only no guitars were harmed in the making of this film. Just a chain-linked set of synths forever locked in overdrive, as performed before an abstract backdrop that looks like it was dubbed from Black Dice…
Thrill Jockey will release Dan Friel’s ‘Total Folklore’ LP on Tuesday, February 19th. The former Parts & Labor frontman is also set to play a special release show at Knitting Factory Brooklyn that very same night, featuring his old bandmate BJ Warshaw and members of Titus Andronicus (Patrick Stickles), Guardian Alien (Greg Fox, Bernard Gann), Talk Normal (Sarah Register), Oneida (Shahin Motia) and more.
