After reissuing two limited vinyl releases as expanded CDs (The Clearing/The Final Epoch and the Horseback collaboration New Dominions) on Relapse last year, Return to Annihilation finds Locrian delivering their first definitive statement for the label, a bleak but strangely beautiful exploration of experimental metal, nihilistic noise and dive-bombing drones. As suggested by its spare, soot-dusted sleeve, this is what happens when The Road gets remixed as a horror story with little-to-no hope for redemption.
